Dr. Freeman received his Biology degree from Baylor University and his D.D.S. from the Baylor School of Dentistry. Following completion of his General Practice Residency at the Naval Hospital in Camp Pendleton, California, he served the remainder of his naval career aboard the USS Sperry as the Dental Officer and Assistant Navigator.

Dr. Freeman began his dental practice in Tyler in 1971. He is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, a member of the Smith County Dental Societies and the American and Texas Dental Associations. He also served as program chairman and president in the East Texas Dental Societies. He has volunteered at the Smith County Health Clinic, Give a Child a Smile, and Texas Mission Clinics.

In a profession where techniques and materials change rapidly, Dr. Freeman believes that studying and sharing knowledge is critical. As a committed student, he has belonged to a local study club as well as the Arkla-Tex Study Club that features the finest national and international clinicians. He has presented educational programs to dental societies, study clubs, and to the senior class of the UT Dental School in San Antonio on subjects ranging from adhesive dentistry as related to cosmetics and TMJ splint therapy.

Cosmetic dentistry is an art form involving engineering and the understanding of shape, form, function, color, and balance. Dr. Freeman’s artistic pursuits outside dentistry include painting and found-object metal sculptures he creates with his wife. Their works have been shown and sold locally as well as at the Texas Sculpture Association in Dallas and the Edom Art Fair. You may have seen some of their work displayed at homes and businesses in our area. One of Dr. Freeman's hobbies is Ballroom Dancing, he and his wife have won and placed in Dallas and Houston competitions in the Amateur and Bronze Divisions. In 2010, he was asked to participate in "Dancing with the Tyler Stars" and won the waltz competition. Dr. Freeman is a certified instructor in sporting clays, an avid outdoorsman, belonged to the Sierra Club and backpacked and scaled all the major peaks in California.
